STRENGTH IN NUMBERS
Unions have played a key role in securing reason- able compensation and respectful treatment for their members and their families, and are responsible for many improvements in employment conditions that benefit all workers.Unions are as important today as they have ever been. Workers now face less job security, more intense competition, and an even greater emphasis on skills development. That makes the need for effective representation and collective action greater than ever.
YOUR FUTURE STARTS HERE
New members become part of the IUOE in one of two ways:
- We accept membership applications from workers who have the skills that are in demand by the union employers who use our employment referral service and from people who want to develop those skills. Qualified workers become members of 115 upon recommendation by two current members. We also accept membership applications from those who want to enter an apprenticeship trade or participate in one of the training programs offered at our Maple Ridge training facility.
- We work to organize entire groups of employees into new bargaining units, which then become part of the IUOE. This is a somewhat more complex procedure, and professional IUOE organizers are available to discuss the specific circumstances at your workplace and to work with you to carry out a successful organizing campaign.
BUILD A BETTER FUTURE
IUOE 115 has helped each of its thousands of members build better futures for themselves and their families. We’d like to talk to you about how we can do the same for you and your co- workers. Unionization is your right, and any of our current members will tell you they’re better off for having exercised it.
